This Thermomix Napolitana Sauce (or Napoli Sauce) is the perfect easy store cupboard recipe for days when you have no time to shop and no energy to cook.

Thermomix Napolitana Sauce served with spaghetti.

When I have no time to go to the shops, and no energy to cook, this Thermomix Napolitana Sauce for pasta is my go-to dinner recipe.

It is super simple, uses basic store cupboard ingredients that I always have on hand, it's cheap, and everyone in my family actually loves it too!

The sauce will also last in the fridge for a few days if you want to double-batch, and it also freezes well.

    What's not to love?!

    Why you'll love this recipe

    • It is super simple and straightforward.
    • It uses basic store cupboard ingredients.
    • It's cheap.
    • You can easily double the recipe.
    • It stores well in the fridge or freezer.

    Watch me make it!

    Ingredients

A full list of ingredients and quantities can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

Traditional napolitana sauce uses just fresh tomatoes, olive oil, basil and seasoning. It's all about the flavour of the tomatoes. If you want to add onions or oregano or other herbs too, that's fine!

    • Tinned tomatoes - obviously the star of the dish, so make sure you use good-quality tinned tomatoes. You can use fresh tomatoes if you have a lot to use up, but I think the best results come from tinned tomatoes.
    • Sugar - just a teaspoon of sugar helps take the tartness out of the tomatoes and brings out their natural flavour.
    • Garlic
    • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
    • Fresh Basil Leaves
    • Pasta to serve (or use it top pizzas)

How to make Napolitana Sauce in the Thermomix

Full step-by-step instructions with exact timings can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

The reason this is one of my go-to recipes when I have no energy to cook, is that it is very quick, easy and hands-off.

Start by chopping the garlic, then sauteeing it, and then just add the remaining ingredients and set it to cook. Finally stir in the basil leaves, and you're done!

Now you just need to cook some pasta and stir it all through. You can cook the past in the Thermomix bowl too, but I usually set it to cook on the stovetop while the sauce cooks in the Thermomix.
