How to whip cream in the Thermomix
Step 1: Insert butterfly
You're going to need the butterfly for whipping cream. So the first step is to attach it to the Thermomix bowl.
Step 2: Pour in the cream
Step 3: Whip the cream
Set the speed to Speed 3 and leave the Measuring Cup off. It can take anywhere from around 1-2 minutes (sometimes even longer) for the cream to whip.
I always watch it carefully from 30 seconds onwards and keep an eye out for the texture changing to avoid it over-whipping.
You will notice the texture change right before it is ready. You will also notice a change in the sound of the cream.
And that's it. Your whipped cream is ready.
Top Tips for whipping cream
Follow these tips to make sure you become a whipped cream master!
- For best results, make sure you use chilled cream - straight from the fridge.
- Make sure you use the right type of cream - this means whipping cream or double cream (thickened cream). Not single cream.
- Keep a close eye on the cream while it is whipping. Keep the measuring cup off and watch through the hole in the lid. You will notice the consistency changing and will hear the change too.
- Make sure the butterfly attachment is inserted correctly. Give it a little tug to check it is in place.
- Don't whip over speed 3.
- Don't add more than 600g of cream at a time. If the recipe calls for more, do it in batches.
- Avoid over whipping! If in doubt, stop the machine, check it, and then continue whipping for a few more seconds until it is done.
Piping whipped cream
Whipped cream is ideal for piping to make it look pretty! To do this, transfer it into a piping bag and make sure you have a nice big piping tip - I use the Wilton 1M open star tip.
